Alzheimer's Association awards 92 grants
In its 2005 research program, the Alzheimer's Association has awarded grants to 92 scientists from the United States and seven other countries. Grants went to projects receiving the highest rankings in the Association's rigorous peer-review system.
The awards totaled $17.8 million, pushing the Association's funding for research since 1982 over $185 million.
"With 650 applications, this was another very competitive grant cycle for us," says William H. Thies, Ph.D., Alzheimer's Association vice president, medical and scientific affairs. "Fortunately, through the generosity of our donors, we were able to make some progress in meeting the challenge. Compared with last year, we awarded 12 percent more funds to 30 percent more projects."
