Faculty
The Faculty are experts in dementia care with an average of ten years experience in their field. They provide practical, how-to approaches critical to quality dementia care.
Session Locations
The Learning Institute offers courses statewide. Onsite training is also offered.
Who Should Attend?
Alzheimer's care coordinators, administrators, nurses, social workers, occupational and physical therapists, CNAs, activity professionals, clergy, home care providers, hospice workers and others who work in the field of Alzheimer's care.
Alzheimer's Learning Institute (ALI)
The Alzheimer's Association is committed to helping professionals improve their knowledge and skills, build stronger teams and deliver better care to people with dementia and their families. Our training and education programs are geared to professionals working in both community-based and residential care settings.
Our programs and meetings have been attended by activity professionals, administrators, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers and staff trainers. Many of our programs offer CEUs.

Cost: $40.00 class unless otherwise noted.Cancellations must be made 48 hours in advance or you will be charged the $40.00 registration fee.
- Registration is required for all classes 48 hours in advance.
- Classes will be cancelled if attendance is fewer than 8 people.

Web-based training programs
Do you provide care for someone with dementia or Alzheimer's? The Alzheimer’s Association® essentiALZ™ certification program is a convenient way for individuals to be recognized for learning quality dementia care practices.The essentiALZ program combines select HealthCare Interactive® CARES® online dementia care training with Alzheimer’s Association® online certification exams. The essentiALZ program was developed to recognize the knowledge of any caregiver who fulfills the certification requirements, regardless of whether they are paid or unpaid for their care of people with dementia.
Individuals 18 years and older can qualify to take essentiALZ online certification exams upon successful completion of select CARES online dementia care training courses. Purchase and completion of the CARES® Dementia BASICS™ and CARES® Dementia Advanced Care™ Dementia Advanced Care™ online training provides immediate access to the appropriate essentiALZ exam at no additional cost.
Currently, the approved prerequisite dementia care online training courses are:
essentiALZ: Approved prerequisite is the online CARES Dementia Basics (4 hours of training) jointly developed by the Alzheimer’s Association and HealthCare Interactive. Starts at $24.95 per individual. EssentiALZ exam and certification provided at no additional cost.
essentiALZ advanced: Approved prerequisite training for the essentiALZ advanced certification is CARES® Dementia Basics and Advanced Training (10 hours), starting at $49.95 per individual.

Dementia Care Training for Team Leaders
This program provides guidance for those who supervise others involved in the care of people with dementia: nurses, unit coordinators, administrators, activity directors or others in leadership positions. After this training you will be able to:- Identify and implement methods to facilitate teamwork.
- Select and use improved communication and supervisory practices.
- Identify techniques and deliver meaningful feedback to members of your team.
- Recognize and create an environment that motivates staff.
Alzheimer's MESA Project
Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado received a second grant of $698,415 from the Colorado Health Foundation to continue creating greater access to medical care for seniors. The Colorado M.E.S.A. Initiative or “Medicare Experts/Senior Access - Innovations in Geriatric Practice & Alzheimer’s Care” offers physicians and medical office personnel training for Medicare coding and documentation and clinical guidelines for treating seniors as well as access to the resources and support of the Alzheimer’s Association.Read the MESA Project press release.
